EQUITY BUDGETING COMMUNITY

Since 2019, the Equity Budgeting Movement has been growing a network of allied practitioners across sectors — oral historians, public folklorists, artists, cultural workers, arts administrators, museum workers, teachers, librarians, environmentalists, public health professionals, extension agents, students, consultants, conservationists, & more — committed to full-ecology budgeting across cultural sectors. It’s been the best feeling in the world to get people together, through work-shops, meet-ups, advocacy sessions, & presentations, to share the equity budgeting model, & to support an emerging global network of equity budgeting practitioners in their work, on the ground, to apply & innovative equity budgeting principles to center economic justice in movement-driven work.

We’ve been honored & humbled by stories of how this movement has put equity budgeting to work in the world: in grant applications, project proposals, re-routing of fiscal & university policies, new budget lines, & more. The #1 thing we’ve heard, through conversations with past workshop attendees, is how helpful it would be to have a space to support equity budgeting practitioners in this ongoing work: a place to speak truth, strategize, share victories, & build collective resources for this people-powered movement.

Well … we’re building it! Stay tuned for announcements about an equity budgeting practitioner directory, a monthly equity budgeting practitioner workspace, an equity budgeting newsletter, & more. We’re building tools & resources to support the movement in this work, & to bring us together — in expanded solidarity — as we grow the call for economic justice in budgeting, in intellectual property considerations, & in community relations, across sectors.
